Overview
Mathura and Vrindavan are two popular destinations in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, known for their religious and cultural significance. Mathura is considered to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna, and Vrindavan is believed to be the place where he spent his childhood.
Mathura is located on the banks of the river Yamuna and has a rich history that dates back to ancient times. It has been ruled by various dynasties, including the Mauryas, Kushans, Guptas, and Mughals, and has served as an important center for art, culture, and trade. Some of the popular attractions in Mathura include the Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple, Dwarkadhish Temple, and Jama Masjid.
Vrindavan, located about 15 km from Mathura, is known for its numerous temples dedicated to Lord Krishna and his childhood friend Radha. It is believed that Lord Krishna spent his childhood in Vrindavan, playing with his friends and herding cows. Some of the popular temples in Vrindavan include the Banke Bihari Temple, ISKCON Temple, and Radha Raman Temple.
Both Mathura and Vrindavan are popular pilgrimage destinations for Hindus, especially during the festival of Holi, which is celebrated with great fervor in the region. The cities are also known for their sweets and delicacies, including the famous Mathura peda and lassi.
